The Patrick Martin Exclusive Trading Engine

A trading system built to say no.

An automated, rule-governed engine for U.S. equities that you license monthly and run in your own brokerage account. It is fast where speed helps, cautious where caution protects you, and it keeps a written record of every decision.

Availability. Trading engine licenses are not yet on sale. The engine is completing supervised paper-trading evaluation and independent legal review. You can join the founding-client list now and be first to receive a quote when licensing opens. Nothing is sold or charged before then.

Before you read further. Trading involves substantial risk, and you can lose some or all of the money in your account. The engine can lose money, can lose it quickly and can malfunction. Patrick Martin Exclusive does not guarantee or project returns. The engine is developed and evaluated in a supervised paper-trading (simulated) environment, and simulated results have inherent limitations. This page explains how the software works. It is not investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell any security. See the full Risk Disclosure and Regulatory Disclosures.

What You Are Licensing

Software that works for you, in your account.

A Patrick Martin Exclusive license gives you the right to run the engine for a monthly fee. It is a technology product, not a managed account, a fund or an advisory service.

  • You own the brokerage account. The engine currently integrates with the Alpaca brokerage API. You open the account in your own name, and your money never passes through Patrick Martin Exclusive.
  • You hold the keys. You generate the API keys and can revoke them at any time. We never ask for withdrawal, transfer or banking permissions.
  • You set the limits. Position size, total exposure and daily and weekly loss limits are chosen by you, inside hard ceilings the software will not exceed.
  • You decide when it runs. Start it, pause it or stop it with the kill switch. The engine does not run without your say-so.
  • A flat software fee. The license is a fixed monthly price. It is never a percentage of your account or a share of profits.

What It Does Well

The advantages of a disciplined machine.

No software removes the risk from markets. But software can do some things more consistently than a person watching a screen, and that is where the engine is designed to shine.

I

No emotion, no fatigue

It applies the same rules at the first minute of the session and the last. It never chases a loss, never revenge-trades and never abandons its stop because of a feeling.

II

Breadth and speed

Every minute it screens a whole universe of symbols and evaluates ten setups on each one, a workload no single person could repeat by hand all day.

III

Risk first, every time

Position, exposure, cash, spread, freshness, loss-limit, cooldown and order-cap checks run before every order. The engine is built to fail closed: when anything is missing or unclear, it does nothing.

IV

A defined exit on every trade

Every entry is a bracket with a protective stop and a profit target set before the order is sent, so no position is ever opened without an exit plan.

V

A complete paper trail

Every cycle, candidate, approval and refusal is written to an append-only journal and audit ledger, so you can see exactly why something did or did not happen.

VI

Private by construction

The AI advisor sees only market data, never your account number, balance or keys. Secrets are masked, logs are filtered, and the advisor's spending is capped each month.

VII

Self-checking

A watchdog grades market stress and pulls back when conditions turn hostile, and a reconciliation pass checks the engine's records against the broker's and halts on any unresolved mismatch.

VIII

Engineered with rigour

The codebase is backed by an extensive automated test suite, static analysis, coverage gates and a change-review process for every safety-critical file.

IX

Paper first

Every capability is built and exercised in a supervised paper-trading environment before it is offered to anyone, and new behaviour is introduced one reviewed stage at a time.

Two Configurations

Conservative by default. Aggressive only by choice.

The engine has two operating configurations. The defaults below are the settings used during development. Your own limits are agreed in writing and can be stricter, but never looser than the software's hard ceilings.

Configuration I

Core Index ETFs

Trades a short list of broad, highly liquid index ETFs (SPY, QQQ and IWM). This configuration suits clients who want automation with the lowest practical complexity.

Maximum single position10% of equity
Maximum total exposure30% of equity
Daily / weekly loss halt2% / 4%
Account typeCash only; no margin or shorting

Configuration II · Higher Risk

Small-Cap Momentum

Screens low-priced stocks (roughly $1 to $5) that meet a minimum dollar-volume filter, and holds a small number of positions at a time. Low-priced stocks are far more volatile and less liquid than index ETFs, and losses can be large and sudden.

Planned risk per trade1% of equity
Maximum open positions3
Daily / weekly loss halt8% / 10%
Account typeCash only; no margin or shorting

A loss halt is a limit on new entries, not a guarantee that losses stop there. Gaps, fast markets and slippage can carry losses past any limit. Stop orders can fill at prices worse than the stop.

Plain Truths

What the engine does not do.

Regulators have warned the public about trading products that exaggerate what their technology can do. We would rather be precise.

  • It does not predict the market. It recognises patterns that have historically mattered to traders. Patterns fail often.
  • It does not guarantee profits or protect you from losses, including large ones.
  • Its AI does not trade on its own. The language model offers a second opinion on candidates the rules have already found. It cannot place, size or change an order, and the rules can always overrule it.
  • It does not hold your money or move funds into or out of your account.
  • It is not personalised advice. It does not know or consider your income, goals, tax situation or tolerance for risk.
  • It does not trade options, futures, forex or crypto, and it does not use margin or short selling by default.
  • It does not manipulate markets. It never places orders it intends to cancel, never layers or spoofs, and never trades with itself.
